Propylene Glycol PG

Colorless liquid used as a solvent and moisturizing material. Widely used in cosmetics. PG makes skin feeling hydrated and soft. It attracts moisture to the surface of the skin, therefore drying it. PG is used in hydraulic brake fluids, prevents freezing of vehicle cooling liquid, in paints and coatings and laundry detergents. Propylene can cause contact dermatitis, kidney and liver damage, as well as gastrointestinal disturbances, nausea, headache, damege of central nervous system and depression. Found in make up products, shampoos, conditioners, aftershaves, deodorants.

Isopropyl- lacquer solvent. Melts fats and therefore is used in cosmetics to enhance skin penetration. Used in products against head lice for it's ability to melt the wax layer which protect insects. Isopropyl may cause blackheads (black dots) and acne. Can also be a reason for nausea, vomiting, headache, waves of heat, depression, dry skin and hair. Creates cracks on the surface of the skin what encourages the growth of bacterias. Study found a link between the use of this substance and the occurance of breast cancer (over 87% of patients who used hair dye for a long time). Found in hair dyes, aftershaves, body lotions, hand lotions, perfumes.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate SLS

Cheap foaming component, creating volume in products. It is used in industrial concentrates for washing floors, washing cars and cars engines. Studies have found that SLS affects hair roots and causes bald spots, causes eyes irritation, skin rashes, mouth ulcers, penetrates the skin, lungs, liver and brain, and damages the immune system. This material has the ability to cause mutation and thus increase the risk of cancer. It also can mingle with other chemicals to create nitrates known as cancer inducing. Found in toothpastes, personal hygiene products, shampoos, shower gels and baby products.

They react with other chemicals to form nitro-amines. Much exposure to these substances changes liver and kidney functions. These substances can cause cancer, irritate the skin, and cause allergies. Beautician Association banned the use of them, but they still are widely used in beauty treatments. The FDA has published the list of over 42% cosmetic products that may be contaminated with these materials. Highest amount is used in shampoos. In Europe these substances is forbidden. Exposure to these substances is dangerous for children and babies. Found in shampoos, hair dyes, conditioners, lotions and soaps, foams, washing liquids.

Perfumes, Fragrances PERFUMES, FRAGRANCES

95% of them come from petrol. These materials are absorbed quickly through the skin and breath and are slowly removed, causing irritation. Found in all cosmetics products

Mineral Oil Petrolatum

Derived from petroleum, the main component of the common face and body creams and other cosmetics. Seals the skin and prevents loss of moisture through the skin, thus creating the illusion of extra hydration. What happens is just the opposite: toxins are getting trapped and the products of metabolism cannot get out. Causes acne, aging of the skin, prevents skin`s natural sebum production what results in dryness. Causes excessive addiction to creams. Found in baby oil, liquid petroleum jelly, creams.

Parabens (Methyl / Ethyl / Butyl / Profile / Isopropyl Paraben)

Widely used in cosmetics. They help to extend the shelf life of the products. Known for being highly toxic and cause rashes and allergic reactions. Recent scientific studies in the UK found a strong association between the use of parabens and the increasing rate of breast cancer in women. These substances are interfering with mitochondria (responsible for creating the energy of the cell), therefore skin metabolism is disrupted, causing it to lose its elasticity and vitality and often develop symptoms of dermatitis, rashes and allergies. Parabens are also causing an excessive addiction to creams.

Soft mineral used in talcum powders and cosmetic powders. It contains carcinogenic elements, asbestos fibers. Can cause ovarian cancer, due to extensive use of talc in the genital area. Inhalation of cosmetic powders containing talc can also be harmful for long-term health, because talc cumulates in lungs and can't get out.
